Senegal’s new political landscape takes shape with kiiraay party launch

the new party adopted the slogan ‘la patrie d’abord’, emphasizing a focus on defending national interests, strengthening republican institutions and consolidating the rule of law.
in wolof, ‘kiiraay’ means ‘that which protects’, a choice made by the initiators to symbolize a political formation dedicated to accompanying president faye’s governance project and uniting forces supporting his vision for transforming Sénégal.
following the assembly, delegates unanimously elected bassirou diomaye faye as the party’s leader, marking a change in his political stance after leaving pastef’s leadership post at the beginning of his presidential term.
according to the resolution read by aminata touré, supervisor general of the former coalition diomaye president, kiiraay’s creation results from the merger of 437 parties, movements and associations united around a common project aimed at supporting reforms initiated by president faye and ambitions for Sénégal’s development.
