PASTEF Congress: Ousmane Sonko poised for leadership renewal
The PASTEF is advancing its preparations for the upcoming congress with the official launch of candidate applications for the party leadership.
The Party Regulation Authority (HARP) has announced that applications can be submitted from 15 May 2026 at midnight until 20 May 2026 at noon.
The statement clarified that candidate declaration forms will be made available to all interested contenders seeking to lead the party.
This process marks a significant milestone in the organization of the PASTEF congress, widely anticipated as a critical step in strengthening and consolidating the ruling party’s structure.
While the internal election process unfolds, there is minimal uncertainty surrounding the outcome. Ousmane Sonko, the central figure and historic leader of the movement, is expected to be re-elected as party president during the congress.
The timing aligns with PASTEF’s efforts to reinforce its internal governance following its rise to power and to prepare for the next phases of its political agenda.
