Ousmane Sonko, president of the Pastef party, has strongly urged his followers to stop using jeers and mocking nicknames directed at authorities. He condemned such behaviour as counterproductive, calling instead for a debate strictly centred on ideas and the party programme.
Speaking at a rally at Dakar Arena, the leader of the Patriots appealed to his supporters to show restraint, warning them against the trap of insults. According to him, these taunts resemble provocations orchestrated to create legal grievances and could lead to the imprisonment of those responsible. Sonko thus urged the youth and sympathisers of the ruling party to raise the level of political debate by staying focused on programmatic proposals and constructive exchanges of ideas.
Setting a new strategic direction for the party, the president of the National Assembly asked his troops to concentrate on ground-level work. He invited them to travel across the entire national territory in order to broaden and durably strengthen the party’s grassroots. Finally, stressing Pastef’s organisational future, he reminded members of the urgency to intensify political and intellectual training for militants so as to consolidate the party’s republican foundation.
