President Goïta Inaugurates Ambitious Hospital Construction Plan!
Bamako, November 10, 2025. Army General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition, officially launched the Presidential Emergency Hospital Project by laying its foundation stone. This significant ceremony, held at the Korofina Reference Health Center in Bamako’s Commune I, marks the commencement of a comprehensive program designed to significantly enhance Mali’s national healthcare system.
Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo Touré, the Minister of Health and Social Development, emphasized that this initiative directly follows the General States of Health held in December 2024. These deliberations had highlighted the crucial need to broaden access to medical care and elevate the standard of health services across the entire nation.
Transforming Mali’s National Hospital Infrastructure
According to the Minister, this undertaking aims for a profound “modernization and restructuring” of the existing hospital framework. It encompasses the development of 15 brand-new hospitals and the conversion of Bamako’s Reference Health Centers (CSREF) into fully operational District hospitals. The entire project, funded exclusively by the national budget, is projected to take 12 months for facilities within Bamako and 24 months for those in regional areas.
The Presidential Emergency Hospital Project is structured around three primary components:
- The upgrade of Reference Health Centers (CSREF) across Bamako’s seven arrondissements into District hospitals.
- The establishment of new District hospitals in Bla and Kangaba.
- The construction of advanced regional hospitals in key locations such as San, Koutiala, Bougouni, Dioïla, Nioro, Bandiagara, and Koulikoro.
These upcoming medical facilities will be equipped with the latest generation of medical technology, feature expanded inpatient capacities, and offer specialized departments, including dedicated hemodialysis units for the hospitals situated in Bamako’s 1st and 6th arrondissements.
Key Priorities and Oversight of Construction
Following the inaugural event, the President of the Transition reiterated that public health remains a fundamental pillar for national progress. He charged the Minister of Health with ensuring the continuity of essential public services throughout the construction period and with strictly upholding contractual timelines. President Goïta also underscored the project’s overarching humanitarian goal: to bring superior medical care closer to all citizens, thereby decreasing the necessity for medical evacuations and alleviating the strain on existing healthcare facilities.
