The French Football League’s disciplinary board has officially validated Le Mans FC’s 2-0 victory over Bastia, securing the club’s long-awaited return to Ligue 1 after 16 years in the lower divisions.

Four days after securing second place in the 2025-2026 Ligue 2 season, Le Mans FC has officially earned promotion to Ligue 1. The Sarthois achieved a 2-0 away victory against Bastia on Saturday, May 9, but the match was suspended in stoppage time due to flares thrown onto the pitch by hostile supporters. Referee Ruddy Buquet never blew the final whistle, leaving the outcome uncertain until Wednesday’s disciplinary ruling.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel’s disciplinary board was tasked with determining the final result and potential sanctions against Bastia’s club following the pitch invasion. The Corsican side faces two consecutive matches behind closed doors and one suspended match as punishment for their supporters’ actions.

The president of Le Mans FC announced the historic promotion to over 24,000 jubilant fans gathered at the Marie Marvingt stadium, where celebrations erupted immediately upon hearing the news.
