Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, president of Madagascar, arrived in Libreville last Friday for talks with Gabonese president Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
The 48-hour working and friendship visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and Madagascar’s ongoing refoundation process. During his stay, President Randrianirina was received at the Palais Rénovation for a private audience with President Oligui Nguema.
The Malagasy delegation attended a presentation by Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault on the key stages of Gabon’s transition and the principles that guided the return to constitutional order. President Oligui Nguema reiterated Gabon’s readiness to support Madagascar in restoring its institutions.
President Randrianirina said he intends to draw inspiration from Gabon’s experience in governance and institutional consolidation. At the conclusion of their discussions, both heads of state expressed satisfaction with the excellent relations between their two countries.
President Randrianirina came to power in October 2025 after widespread youth protests over severe water and electricity shortages toppled former president Andry Rajoelina.
