Côte d’Ivoire youth leaders urged to embrace responsible political engagement

Bondoukou — In a bid to foster responsible civic engagement among young leaders, the National Youth Council of Côte d’Ivoire (CNJCI) in Bondoukou held a capacity-building workshop on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The event, themed ‘Empowering youth associations and leaders in a politically sensitive environment: what approach?’, brought together local youth leaders, community activists, and representatives of student bodies to discuss the role of youth in promoting social cohesion and peace.

Strengthening civic responsibility in youth organizations

Alexis Adjoumani Kouadio, the CNJCI’s regional delegate in Bondoukou, emphasized the importance of youth leaders adopting a constructive and responsible stance in political matters. He stressed that youth organizations must act as pillars of civic education and trusted partners of public authorities in fostering dialogue, civic values, and national unity.

« Youth structures like the CNJCI were created to work hand-in-hand with the government. Every leader must fully understand their responsibilities and set an example for both the state and society, » Kouadio stated during the workshop.

Leadership beyond titles: the power of action

Kouacou Désiré, regional director of the Ministry of Youth, Professional Integration, and Civic Service in Gontougo, underscored the need for youth leaders to go beyond symbolic roles. He highlighted the importance of translating leadership into tangible actions that benefit local communities.

« Being an association president is not just about holding a title — it’s about breathing life into your organization, rallying young people, and driving initiatives that contribute to community development, » he remarked.

The workshop also focused on equipping participants with essential skills in responsible leadership, conflict mediation, organizational management, and recognizing political manipulation within youth movements.

A call for peace and social stability

Representing the regional prefect of Gontougo and the local authorities of Bondoukou, Prefect Gnaihi Hugues praised the initiative for its contribution to turning youth into a driving force for social stability and national progress.

« Youth are an invaluable asset to our nation. They must be at the forefront of social cohesion, peace-building, and active citizenship, » he affirmed, urging participants to apply the lessons learned from the sessions.

Interactive discussions and community engagement

The event featured a range of impactful presentations, including a session on managing youth associations led by Jean Pierre Kouassi, a talk on the power of associative commitment shared by Gla Serge, and a panel discussion moderated by Pascal Kouamé, exploring the delicate balance between youth leadership and political involvement.

The workshop concluded with the official launch of the CNJCI’s local branch in Gontougo, attended by youth leaders from neighborhoods and villages, community organizers, student representatives, and activists dedicated to nurturing civic values and leadership at the grassroots level.
