Chad: Judicial and security officials work toward resolution in N’Djamena
Officials convened in the capital to address misunderstandings between the judiciary and the Minister of Public Security. Both sides agreed to issue formal clarifications and apologies to restore institutional trust.
On May 27, 2026, senior officials gathered at the Ministry of Justice in N’Djamena to resolve escalating tensions between judicial authorities and the Minister of Public Security and Immigration. The meeting brought together key figures, including Justice Minister Ndolenodji Alixe Naimbaye and Public Security Minister Ali Ahmat Aghabache.
The Justice Minister emphasized the critical role of dialogue in maintaining institutional harmony and safeguarding judicial independence. The Public Security Minister clarified that his earlier remarks—delivered during a discussion on public land occupation—were taken out of context due to manipulated video clips. He denied any intent to undermine the judiciary and apologized for the miscommunication that followed.
Union representatives voiced concerns, describing the minister’s statements as a potential infringement on judicial autonomy. While welcoming the government’s apology, they requested additional clarifications on certain phrases they deemed potentially ambiguous.
The Security Minister acknowledged that his wording could have been clearer and committed to issuing a detailed public apology. The First President of the Supreme Court called for strengthened institutional dialogue to preserve public confidence in the justice system.
Attendees agreed to refine the wording of the formal apology and publish a joint statement outlining the steps toward reconciliation. The session concluded with a renewed commitment to transparency and mutual respect between the judiciary and security sectors.
