Bénin adjusts government meeting schedule for the 2026-2033 term

Under the leadership of President Romuald Wadagni, the inaugural Council of Ministers for the 2026-2033 term has established the strategic roadmap for government action over the next seven years. This first session served as a platform to define the core objectives that will guide the administration’s efforts through the end of the decade.

During the meeting, the Head of State reminded cabinet members of their primary duty to serve the public interest with strict discipline, accountability, and integrity. President Romuald Wadagni emphasized that the government’s work must be rooted in transparency and solidarity to rebuild and maintain the trust between the state and the citizens of Bénin.

Strategic priorities for the seven-year mandate

The administration has identified several critical areas of focus for this septennat. Chief among these are the fight against extreme poverty and the reduction of social and regional disparities. Furthermore, strengthening national security remains a top priority. The government intends to ensure that public investments are distributed more equitably across the entire country to promote balanced development.

To enhance the efficiency of public policy and accelerate the decision-making process, the Council of Ministers also adopted a revamped operational framework for the executive branch.

New calendar for executive sessions

A significant change to the government’s routine was announced: the Council of Ministers will now hold its ordinary sessions on the first Wednesday of every month. This structured approach is designed to improve coordination across various departments.

  • Council of Ministers: Every first Wednesday of the month.
  • Interministerial Committee: Two sessions per month, held on the first and third Mondays.
  • Cabinet Councils: Organized as needed based on the specific requirements of individual ministries.

With the conclusion of this inaugural session, the government of Bénin officially enters its operational phase. The new roadmap focuses heavily on institutional performance and meeting the social demands of the population with a disciplined and results-oriented approach.
