Arthur Zagré, a left-back trained at Paris Saint-Germain and former French youth international, has chosen to represent Burkina Faso at the international level. The 24-year-old defender, who has 23 caps and 2 goals with France’s U18 and U19 teams, will now don the colors of the Burkina Faso national team, honoring his ancestral roots.
Currently plying his trade at Excelsior Rotterdam in the Eredivisie, Zagré has made a significant impact this season, scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists. His versatility allows him to excel as a left-back, a more advanced position in the same flank, or even as a defensive midfielder. With his contract at Excelsior Rotterdam expiring in June, the 1.68m tall left-footer is set to embark on a new chapter in his career.
Under the guidance of head coach Amir Abdou since March, the Burkina Faso national team, known as the Étalons, will likely field Zagré in their upcoming June friendlies against Belarus and Russia. His inclusion could provide a tactical boost, given his experience at the highest levels of European football.
From PSG to European Leagues
Zagré’s football journey began at Paris Saint-Germain, where he progressed through the youth ranks before making his Ligue 1 debut during the 2019-2020 season under Thomas Tuchel. His promising performances earned him a move to AS Monaco, though his path took a turn with successive loans to Dijon, FC Utrecht, and finally, Excelsior Rotterdam. In Rotterdam, he found stability and consistent playing time, solidifying his reputation as a dynamic and technically gifted left-back.
The upcoming international call-up marks a defining moment for Zagré, who will now represent Burkina Faso in major tournaments. With his blend of speed, technical ability, and tactical intelligence, he is poised to become a key figure for the Étalons in their quest for success on the global stage.
