In a significant move to bolster bilateral ties and accelerate regional development, Algeria and Chad formalized an agreement this Thursday in N’Djamena. The accord outlines a series of provisions designed to streamline the execution of collaborative projects across public works and infrastructure sectors. This initiative aims to deepen the strategic partnership between the two nations and expedite the implementation of commitments originally established last April.
The landmark document was officially signed by Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, and Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance. The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of a crucial coordination meeting held in N’Djamena, marking the second day of the Algerian delegation’s working visit to Chad.
Attendees at this pivotal gathering included key representatives from both sides. From Algeria, the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, along with the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, and senior officials from the Cosider group and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), were present. The Chadian delegation included the Minister Delegate responsible for Infrastructure, alongside several high-ranking executives.
During the discussions, the Chadian Minister emphasized the “rapid momentum” observed in the execution of bilateral agreements. He specifically commended the tangible progress achieved since the initial accords were inked on April 22 in Algiers. This advancement is notably evident through reciprocal technical visits and the commencement of feasibility studies for the ambitious trans-Saharan road project, which is set to traverse Chadian territory.
