Three Senegalese football supporters who were detained in Morocco following disturbances at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have touched down in Dakar. Abdoulaye Dieng, Ibrahima Diop, and Aziz Wade arrived at the Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) at 6:25 PM aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight, greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
These supporters were among 18 Senegalese fans arrested after the final match between Senegal and Morocco. They were convicted by a Rabat appeals court of hooliganism, which included charges of public disorder, throwing objects, damaging sports facilities, and assaulting law enforcement officers.
The trio served a three-month prison sentence before being released on April 18. Fifteen other detained fans remain in Moroccan custody, with their sentences ranging from six months to one year. They are expected to return to Senegal as their respective sentences are completed.
