Senegal politics: Cheikh Bara Ndiaye defends Ousmane Sonko in Ndiaga Seck case

The arrest of political figure Ndiaga Seck has ignited fierce debates, with accusations of political manipulation swirling in its wake. Cheikh Bara Ndiaye, a vocal supporter of Ousmane Sonko, has vehemently rejected these claims, dismissing them as orchestrated attempts to tarnish Sonko’s reputation.

Politician Ndiaga Seck was taken into custody on Friday following allegations of unnatural acts, after being linked to another ongoing legal case involving a suspect. The situation quickly escalated into a political storm when journalist Madiambal Diagne suggested a connection between Seck and Ousmane Sonko, the Prime Minister, insinuating possible ties between the two.

Cheikh Bara Ndiaye, a deputy, strongly refuted these allegations, condemning what he described as a deliberate conflation of facts designed to damage Sonko’s standing. He emphasized that such narratives were nothing more than politically motivated smear campaigns.

Ndiaye also praised Sonko’s handling of the situation, highlighting the Prime Minister’s commitment to allowing the judicial process to unfold transparently without interference. The deputy’s remarks underscore the growing tensions between political figures and law enforcement in the country.

Ndiaga Seck remains in police custody and is expected to appear before an investigating judge in Linguère on Monday to continue proceedings in the case.
