OM faces potential major loss: Højbjerg eyes move to AC Milan

The Olympique de Marseille (OM) could soon lose another key player from its squad. Reports suggest that AC Milan is actively considering signing Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, the Danish midfielder currently under contract with the French club until 2028. With the OM looking to cut payroll and boost financial flexibility, Højbjerg’s potential departure could be a significant development for both parties.

AC Milan’s keen interest in Højbjerg

While negotiations are not yet advanced, AC Milan’s sporting director has indicated that the club will first assess its squad during pre-season before deciding if reinforcements are needed in midfield. However, if a Milanese midfielder departs, Højbjerg could quickly emerge as a top target. The 30-year-old, who previously played for Tottenham Hotspur, has also expressed strong interest in playing in Italy, where multiple clubs have been monitoring his situation for weeks.

Given his high salary, the OM may not insist on keeping him. A transfer fee of around €10 million could be acceptable, considering Højbjerg’s age and wage demands. This would allow the club to balance its financial objectives while securing a reasonable return on investment.

Potential reunion with Rabiot

If Højbjerg joins AC Milan, he would reunite with Adrien Rabiot, his former teammate at Marseille. Last season, Højbjerg contributed four goals and five assists in 32 Ligue 1 appearances, bringing both experience and intensity to the team.
