Chad vice-premier minister assesses regional governance in Moundou
By Golmem Ali Emmanuel
The Vice-Premier Minister overseeing Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been in Moundou since May 19, 2026, as part of a mission to monitor and evaluate local governance.
The two-day working sessions, held from May 20 to 21 at the Logone Occidental Provincial Council headquarters, brought together government delegates from southern provinces, prefects, municipal mayors, provincial council presidents, and national legislators.
During the opening remarks, Dago Yacoub, the government delegate for Logone Occidental, welcomed the delegation from N’Djamena. He emphasized that this gathering would help authorities gain deeper insights into local conditions and identify the most urgent needs of communities.
He added that the mission provides a valuable opportunity for Limane Mahamat to experience firsthand the realities on the ground and develop actionable solutions to address pressing concerns.
In his address, the Vice-Premier Minister highlighted the critical importance of the southern region to Chad’s economic stability, describing it as the nation’s agricultural breadbasket due to its vital role in food security.
He also pointed to persistent security challenges in southern provinces, including farmer-herder conflicts, intercommunal tensions, and illegal arms trafficking. These issues, he warned, undermine social cohesion and deepen divisions within communities.
Through this mission, Chadian authorities aim to strengthen local governance and enhance coordination between central government agencies and regional authorities.
