Atonfack Guemo, director of communication at the Ministry of Defence, used his editorial on Saturday, September 19, 2026, during the program ‘Honneur et fidélité’ to issue a strong call for vigilance, linking it to the concept of global peace and security.

Frozen conflicts are reawakening, ongoing wars drag on, and security crises persist indefinitely. On nearly every continent, the sound of weapons grows louder and more frequent—whether in clashes between regular armies, so-called asymmetric operations, or firearm homicides, those low-intensity but highly lethal wars. Focusing only on the latter, shootings claim over 200,000 lives each year worldwide.

This globalization of armed violence breeds a palpable sense of permanent insecurity—a feeling that can quickly spiral into psychosis, especially in our countries plagued by an international terrorist network whose capacity for harm keeps expanding despite unanimous condemnations and sanctions.

Meanwhile, bombings, attacks, blockade attempts, and hostage-takings multiply. All this is possible only because terrorists can easily acquire means of action across land, air, sea, and cyber domains. No need to ask by whom or why? Our enemies are supported by our friends, for our own good.

At the same time, we witness the globalization of other forms of insecurity spreading into other areas of human activity. This includes industrial espionage, looting of wildlife, plant, and mineral resources, and sabotage, destruction, or diversion of communication routes—not to mention politics, education, and age-old cultural customs subject to all kinds of distortions. These are all attacks and violence against people, institutions, and the environment. At the current pace, no country seems powerful enough to avoid being a target.

As Cameroonian citizens, we are in the front row to know what is at stake, forced to fight hard to survive the multiple aggressions that have made our country a convergence point.

Our country devotes enormous parts of its economic, material, and human potential to both blocking the consequences of instability on its eastern borders and stifling transnational projects of obscurantist extremism in its north. And not the least of the perils, Cameroon is working to drain another abscess: the seditious ambitions in its western regions.

In this dangerous global environment, Cameroon does its best to prevent, contain, and if needed, reduce the occurrence and severity of aggressions targeting it. To date, the results of our efforts are rather satisfactory, although eruptions of violence still occur in some parts of the national territory. In this noble struggle, the support of our compatriots for the professional workers of national defense is invaluable.

However, we must continue to exercise vigilance at every moment, in every part of the national territory and in all domains, to thwart the maneuvers of an adversary from whom we should expect neither respite nor mercy.

Let us remain patriots, let us stay vigilant, let us love Cameroon definitively.
